The story of Clan MacGregor
Resilience and Rebellion in the Scottish Highlands
Our namesake, Clan MacGregor, is one of the oldest clans in Scotland. Their motto, ‘Royal Is My Race’, is inspired by their links to the Celtic Royal Family. Their symbol, a crowned lion’s head, reflects the fierce pride they’re known for. And their history is filled with honour in the face of persecution and strife.
Years of conflict with neighbouring clans eventually erupted into the Battle of Glenn Fruinn. Despite emerging victorious, Clan MacGregor fell out of favour with King James VI. Forced from their ancestral lands, the clan faced the prospect of extinction. However, refusing to give in, they stood firm and defiantly displayed their banner. It was not until 1774 that the oppressive laws were finally repealed, allowing Clan MacGregor to reclaim their legacy and roar once again.
